Wamara or Guyana Rosewood is a very dense wood like a typical Rosewood with deep purple heart wood and pale yellow sapwood. Some boards have wonderful banding where the heart and sap meet creating two color moziacs. Its density makes it hard on tools but the beautiful colors and sheen it takes finishing makes it very worthwhile. No finishing difficulties as it is not an oily wood.
Properties: Log surface short wavy,Ripple marks fine and remarkable.Bark: around 1cm thick, Outer bark: yellow with grey and small thin elliptical pieces stripper off, Wood:Hearwood distinct, Heartwood golden brown,dark brown or red brown ofter with dark brwon stripes.Sapwood yellow white,Wieght:0.96-1.06g/cm, Grain£ºStraight or interlocked.Texture:Somewhat fine or somewhat coarse
